Staffelter Hof
While Jan Matthias Klein and his team started out with a classic Mosel style, natural wines have now become a project close to the winery's heart.
Profile
As one of the oldest wineries in the world, Staffelter Hof combines centuries of tradition with a modern, natural approach to winemaking. Staffelter Hof oversees 9 hectares of steep, slate-soiled vineyards, predominantly planted with Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Müller-Thurgau. Practicing organic viticulture, Staffelter Hof is using cover crops, composts, and natural preparations to promote soil health and biodiversity.
In the vineyard
Staffelter Hof produces two styles of wine in one cellar. In addition to the classic line, Jan produces a natural line of wines that offer a new interpretation of his terroir. These wines are approachable, juicy yet serious, and made with minimal intervention. The fermentation is spontaneous, occurring with native yeasts before the wines mature in stainless steel and traditional oak barrels. They are bottled without filtration and without any addition of sulfur.
In the cellar
The range includes two PetNats (Petillant Naturel), like the Party Panda, as well as white and red cuvées such as Little Bastard and Little Red Riding Wolf. Additionally, there is an Orange wine called Orange Utan. All of these options offer generous fruit, fine salinity, and plenty of freshness.
