Durfort-Vivens

Under the guidance of Gonzague Lurton, Château Dufort-Vivens has become synonymous with excellence, combining a traditional, pure style with a commitment to biodynamics. The estate is situated in the appellation of Margaux and is classified as 2. Cru Classé.

While Château Dufort-Vivens generally opts for minimal intervention anyway, the Cuvée La Nature is completely free from added sulfites.

Profile

Château Dufort-Vivens covers 55 hectares, mainly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The vineyard strives to showcase the distinctiveness of the Durfort-Vivens terroir in their wines. To achieve this, they have been implementing biodynamic principles since 2009 and have been certified by Demeter since 2016. The outcomes have been conclusive: not only has the soil regenerated, but the wine quality has also continued to improve in brilliance and precision.

In the vineyard

Winemaking at Château Dufort-Vivens is characterized by minimal intervention. The fermentation process is spontaneous, utilizing indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged in clay amphoras as well as new and used oak barrels. During the aging process, no inputs such as sulfur or other stabilizers are added to the wines. Additionally, the wines are neither filtered nor fined, and sulfur is used in minimal quantities only at bottling. The cuvée La Nature is even free from any added sulfur, allowing for a very pure expression of the terroir of Margaux.

In the cellar

The winery produces a classic Grand Vin, the Château Dufort-Vivens. Additionally, three other wines are crafted with the same care, each highlighting the unique terroir of three different plots. With their "La Nature" cuvée, they have taken their low-intervention approach to another level by creating a wine without any additional sulfur or other inputs. This results in a wine that exhibits a remarkably clean and pure aromatic expression of the Château's terroir.
