Nénu
Rasmus Aamand Olesen is based in Banyuls-sur-Mer, a town in the region of Roussillon, where the weather extremes of sea and mountains help him create lively and salin wines.
Profile
Nénu was established in 2017 and cultivates 5 hectares of vineyards on the steep, schistous slopes of Banyuls-sur-Mer. They grow Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Carignan. Rasmus' approach is deeply grounded in organic agriculture, with a strong focus on understanding the soil and continually improving its health to enhance the expression of terroir in their wines..
In the vineyard
Nénu creates its wines with minimal intervention. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts in old oak barrels. The wines are unfiltered and unfined, with sulfur additions kept to a minimum only when Rasmus believes it's necessary to ensure the wine's stability.
In the cellar
The domaine produces white and red cuvées from different plots as well as one rosé. Their wines don’t follow a classic quality categorisation, yet the top wine is La Cuvée de Claude made of Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre, carefully selected from the best plots. It is named in honor of Claude, a pivotal figure in the domaine’s history, whose passion and dedication continue to inspire their winemaking philosophy.
