Domaine des Moriers
Domaine de Moriers stands for expressive, energetic, and elegant Beaujolais. Situated in Lancié and taken over in 2018 by Francois de Nicolay and Dominique Cor, it is currently led by the talented winemaker Arnaud Combier.
Profile
The winery's portfolio includes plots in some of the best vineyards in Fleurie, such as 'La Madone', and the well-known Moulin-à-Vent field 'En Brenay'. The winery strongly believes in the importance of good soil and healthy grapes, and as such, the soil is ploughed using horses, and the vineyards are converted to organic farming, with additional use of biodynamic principles.
In the vineyard
During the winemaking process in the cellar, Arnaud uses whole bunches of grapes and traditional Beaujolais concrete vats. After spontaneous fermentation of around two weeks, a vertical pressing process is carried out, resulting in high-quality pressed juice that is essential for the final wines. The wines are bottled without any filtering or fining, and sulfur is used in minimal quantities only at bottling, ensuring the natural expression of the fruit.
In the cellar
The domaine represents a vibrant, expressive, and energetic style of Beaujolais. They produce a Beaujolais-Villages, followed by village wines from Fleurie, Chiroubles, and Moulin-à-Vent. Their top cuvée is Fleurie La Madone, which exhibits a beautifully floral, fragrant expression, and can mature for decades.
